There are many things you can try to either stop or reduce your snoring. A few are listed here.
1. Don’t eat for three or four hours before bed. Several types of food, especially milk or other dairy products can cause mucus in the throat, which can worsen snoring.
2. Lose some weight. Sometimes, especially if your snoring is mild, this can stop snoring. When you lose weight, you will lose it everywhere, even in the throat and from your tongue.
3. Have a hot, long shower just before bed. The steam in the shower will help clear the mucus from your throat.
4. Have little or no alcohol before bed. Drinking alcohol is well known to make snoring worse.
5. Get plenty of good quality sleep by going to bed early. When you are tired, you will snore more.
5. Stop smoking. Smoking can irritate the throat, making snoring worse.
6. Raise the head of your bed. Even a small amount can make your tongue less likely to fall back into your throat. A simple way to do this is to place a book or two under the legs at the top of your bed.
7. Minimise the dust in your bedroom. Wash your sheets and blankets regularly. Think about removing carpet and rugs and use the vacuum regularly.
8. Visit a Chinese herbalist. They’ve been using herbs for thousands of years to fix almost any problem you can think of.
Try as many ways to stop snoring as you can. If any of these methods work, keep using that method while trying others. The more of these ways you try, at the same time, the more chance there is to stop snoring.
